UFC 148 has come and gone and the result was easily the most anticipated fight in recent memory as Anderson Silva proved that he is still the best fighter in the world with a resounding 2nd round TKO stoppage of archrival Chael Sonnen. The MGM Grand Garden was rocking as the two combatants finally met after nearly two years since their initial clash that saw Sonnen dominate Silva for four and a half rounds before Silva scored a desperation triangle choke finish. Since then, Sonnen has made it a point to throw verbal jabs at Silva until the Brazilian signed the contract to give him the rematch. Perhaps Sonnen went too far, but he got what he wanted.

Or did he?

The rematch started off much like the first affair with Sonnen using his wrestling to ground the agile Silva. However, he was unable to duplicate the damage that he inflicted in the first fight. When the second round began, Silva had enough and shrugged off a Sonnen takedown attempt before volleying punches off of the Portland fighter’s head. A failed spinning backfist found Sonnen on the ground and vulnerable to Silva’s attack. A vicious knee followed by ruthless strikes and that’s all she wrote.

Check out the highlights of that fight and Tito Ortiz‘s retirement fight againts Forrest Griffin below.
