Amy Winehouse‘s family, friends and fans are commemorating her tragic passing from accidental alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 one year ago today.

According to Amy’s father Mitch (who gave a rare interview this past Friday) they’ll go to Amy’s house for Jewish prayer this morning and to be with the singer’s fans, then her close friends will head to a party at Jazz After Dark, her “favorite jazz bar.’’

‘‘There are going to be lots of tears and lots of laughter and that is exactly how Amy would have wanted it,’’ Mitch said. ‘‘Even after a small space in time—we’re talking a year since Amy passed away—we are beginning, well, Amy is beginning, to have a positive effect on a lot of disadvantaged young people’s lives.”

The Amy Winehouse Foundation was launched last year in the United Kingdom and in April in the United States. The singer, described by her father as “Adele and Lady Gaga rolled into one” was loved the world over for her haunting authenticity and gifted vocal abilities. She became known in her native Britain for her debut album Frank but her international breakthrough came with Back to Black in 2007, a classic set that won her five Grammy Awards.
