Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta‘s one of the most popular shows on television and at their first New York press event last night, standout characters Stevie J, Joseline Hernandez, K. Michelle and Lil Scrappy did not disappoint.

The show’s co-executive producer Mona Scott-Young kicked off proceedings at the Griffin Hotel in the city’s trendy Meatpacking district, speaking to the assembled crowd of media about how extremely popular this season’s cast is and defending them (as always) against criticism of the perceived lowbrow entertainment value of the show.

After the most recent episode was screened (highlights including the unintentional hilarity of Benzino and Karlie Redd‘s developing relationship, the ongoing drama of Stevie J x Joseline x Mimi Faustand K. Michelle’s new track, “Kiss My Ass”) it was time for the show’s stars in attendance to have their Q&A session. Their colorful banter included Joseline confidently telling reporters, “I do whatever my daddy [Stevie J] tells me to do” and Scrappy rebutting questions about his strong relationship with his mother Momma Dee with, “If getting checks with my mama makes me a mama’s boy, then I guess I’m a mama’s boy.” They’re all obviously enjoying the attention the show has brought them and have quickly realized that to capitalize from it, they need to “stay in character” and even turn it up further when needed.
