Paranormal Activity is hitting that point where sequels/prequels just seem silly. Ok, we get it, they’ve been haunted by demons for generations! Their grandma was a witch, and their grandfather was the Headless Horseman! And it all happened in Japan, too! Seriously, when will people learn to just accept the demon, and not make it angry? Nonetheless, Paranormal Activity 4 is headed to theaters, and the first full trailer was released yesterday.

Unlike Paranormal Activity 2 and 3, it seems like this latest installment is actually a sequel and not a prequel. Picking up after the disappearance of a possessed Katie and her nephew Hunter in Paranormal Activity 2, PA4 fast forwards a few years to show Hunter getting in on the family haunting business, with a new family in a new nondescript suburban home.

The film is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. They may not be original director Oren Peli, but they have a very respectable record as the duo behind the documentary Catfish and Paranormal Activity 3.

The franchise has experienced a decline in overall quality and critical reception, especially as they’ve gone a little crazy with increased special effects budgets. But at the same time, many believe they’ve remained consistently scary, a notable accomplishment for such a long running horror series.

What do you think about Paranormal Activity 4?
