Gabby Douglas Corn Flakes? Let The Marketing Machine Begin
Overnight she’s become America’s Sweetheart and now teenage athlete Gabby Douglas is ready to reap the rewards of her hard work.
Just yesterday Douglas, 16, won the Women’s All-Around Gymnastics gold medal (becoming the first African-American to do so) during the Summer Olympics and she’s already been immortalized on a box of Corn Flakes (USA Gymnastics already tweeted a photo of her holding the box). Kelloggs, the makers of the cereal brand, is a sponsor of the US Olympic Committee and no doubt the first of many brands to endorse the young champion.
On the TODAY show this morning Douglas talked about her journey to the gold, which included moving at 14 from Virginia to Iowa for her intense coaching.
“It took a lot of hard days in the gym, a lot of drive,” she said. “Gold medals are made out of sweat, blood and tears and effort in the gym every day.”
