Kenyan Gold Medalist Accused Of Stabbing Woman For Refusing Sex
You may have heard of Ezekiel Kemboi thanks to the victory dance that he did at the 2012 Summer Olympics. What you may not know is that the dancing Kenyan may be facing assault charges for stabbing a woman in the chest after she denied him sex back in June. Slate has the details.
In June, the 30-year-old Kemboi was arrested in Kenya and charged with stabbing a 26-year-old woman in the chest. After an evening at a club drinking Red Bull and watching soccer, Kemboi offered to give Anne Njeri a ride home. The East African Standard reported that Kemboi, who just won the gold medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase, allegedly became enraged after Njeri refused to have sex with him, then stabbed her and drove away.
Damn, now that’s cold. However, Kemboi is refuting the claims by saying that he was being setup for a robbery.
Kemboi, for his part, claims that it was all a setup—that Njeri and two other men tried to rob him, and that Njeri was accidentally stabbed by one of her co-conspirators.
Kemboi won the gold medal in the 3000m Steeple Chase, which is like a long ass obstacle course where the runner has to hop over 28 barriers and seven water jumps.
Well, he just brought his country a gold medal, so you have to wonder if the Kenyan courts will take it easy on him.
