Fox News Exposes The REAL Threat: Immigrants

With the nation still reeling from high-profile shootings in Colorado, Wisconsin, and now Texas A&M, Americans might be tempted to think that guns are dangerous. But thankfully, Fox News has detected the real threat to our security: immigrants.

In an article subtly titled “Criminal Immigrants Free To Kill,” the nation’s Fair and Balanced news source lays out the problem that “illegals” are wandering our streets, murdering everything in sight. Author William La Jeunesse reports on immigrants who have been convicted of a crime, and served their sentenced jail time; but when they were supposed to be deported, their home countries refused to take them.

I admit, that does suck. And some of these criminals have gone on to commit even worse crimes, including horrific murders.

But what’s relevant is that they are violent criminals, not that they are immigrants. The article trumpets the convicts’ immigration status- and even more than that, their race and religion- in a blatant attempt to stoke fears of anyone not born in this country. What about the released convicts who are American citizens, Fox? Should we dump them somewhere else too?

For example, in this outstanding excerpt of journalism, La Jeunesse takes a terrible killing by a guy named “Islam,” throws in some unnecessary, pandering, and flag-waving details about the Christian victim, and then indiscriminately ties it to tens of thousands of other immigrants:

Police say Decker was at home when Islam broke in and strangled her to death in March. Decker taught Sunday school, volunteered at church and supported veterans’ groups. Her case ignited a storm of criticism in tiny Hudson, N.Y., but it is hardly isolated. More than 50,000 criminal alien immigrants ordered deported remain in the U.S.

Wait, so one Muslim murderer means 50,000 immigrants might kill my church-going grandma? Makes sense to me!

Later, the article describes a situation that honestly does seem to be a real miscarriage of justice:

In Boston, a Cambodian gang member stabbed and beat 16-year-old Ashton Cline-McMurray to death with a golf club. The boy, disabled with cerebral palsy, was attacked while walking home from a football game. Originally, prosecutors charged Loeun Heng with murder, which carried a life sentence. However, in 2003 they agreed to a plea bargain, believing Heng could be deported. Last year, when he was released from prison, Cambodia refused to take him back, putting him back on the streets.

So a convicted murderer is free, right now, because of our nancy diplomats in the State Department?! Wait… what’s that sentence, way down there?

Eventually, Cambodia relented and took him back.

So everything worked out in the end? Yeah, if you’re trying to prove that this is a problem, you don’t want to emphasize that.

La Jeunesse also probably doesn’t want to mention that deportations of illegal immigrants are at record highs under the Obama administration, with a particular emphasis on rooting out illegal immigrants with criminal records- or that any connection between illegal immigration and higher rates of serious crime is debatable at best.

If you want to have a real discussion about immigration, crime, and how we can get the world to take in violent criminals, that’s great. But let’s face it: this article is just inflammatory and biased fuel for xenophobia. I can see Fox printing up the bumper stickers now: “Guns don’t kill people- immigrants kill people.”
