Author Turned Rapper Joy Deja King Is A “Boss Bitch”
After making a name for herself as a premier “street lit” author, Joy Deja King is now venturing into the murky waters of becoming a female MC.
King is best known as a national bestselling author described as the “urban” version of Jackie Collins. Having written over 12 novels (starting with Dirty Little Secrets in 2006) her style is a mix of fact and fiction based on her own rollercoaster life. She was formerly married to a popular Grammy Award-winning producer (whom she’s yet to name) and has seen first-hand the pitfalls of the entertainment industry.
After conquering the literary world (King has her own production company, was named Essence‘s number one Bestselling Author seven months straight in 2009 and has now created Young Diamond Books aimed at a teenage audience) the power player is now putting the same amount of drive and dedication into launching her rap career. Casting naysayers aside, she released her mixtape Boss Bitch Music this week. Featuring female empowerment anthems like “10 Bitch Commandments,” the set’s lead single is “I’m The Bomb” featuring Atlanta rapper (and star of DrJays.com’s Summer Sensations 2012 campaign) Ca$h Out.
