Chad Johnson Just Lost His First Endorsement Deal As A Result Of His Recent Domestic Battery Arrest

I’m really glad it’s Friday. I had a lot of work to get through this week and a lot of things going on outside of work, and I’m glad that I’m going to be able to kick back for a few days this weekend. That said, I’m also glad that my week wasn’t anything like Chad Johnson‘s week. Seriously, that guy had one of the worst weeks ever. EVER! Who else do you know that’s been arrested, fired, fired again, and separated from their significant other within a  three-day window? We’re pretty sure no one. Those are some tough breaks to bounce back from in a short amount of time.

Unfortunately, that’s not all that Johnson has to worry about. He also has to worry about all of the endorsement deals that he’s probably going to lose sometime in the near future. And, we say “probably” because he just lost his first endorsement deal. The coconut water brand Zico just announced that, effectively immediately, Johnson will no longer rep the brand. The news comes just a few weeks after Zico announced the endorsement deal in the first place.

“The Zico brand is about supporting naturally powered athletes,” a statement from the company said. “We partnered with Chad Johnson because of our great respect for what he has achieved on the playing field. However, in light of recent events involving Mr. Johnson, we have decided to terminate our relationship. The values we espouse, through out employees, our customers, and our brand, are central to our mission. We have taken this proactive step to demonstrate just how important those values are.”

Damn, Chad. I can’t say I’m surprised, but damn…

I’m also sure that the deal with Zico won’t be the last one you lose. I just hope your other deals don’t get taken away until next week. I’m not sure how much more you can handle this week.
