Lady Gaga’s New “Fame” Fragrance Commercial May Be Too Creepy For TV

When you promise that your new jet-black fragrance will smell like blood and semen, you can’t really create a commercial that showcases you running through a field of poppy flowers like Judy Garland did in A Wizard of Oz. So, it’s no surprise that Lady Gaga‘s new commercial for her Fame fragrance is just as black as her black perfume bottle.

The Fame print ad already featured creepy little monsters crawling all over Gaga’s naked body. But, in the 34-second video spot, the “Born This Way” singer takes things even further. After emerging from what looks like a pool of melted latex, Gaga marches around mannequins and other oddities while dressed in futuristic black garb. When she isn’t screaming or looking at giant lips, she’s smearing goo on hot hunks. Why? Because she can.

“We thought, ‘Let’s just make the most epic fragrance campaign of all time and let’s not care at all about whether they can even print it or show it on TV. Let’s just do everything we ever dreamed of,’” she said in her recent interview about the commercial with Vogue. “We basically did this purely for the pleasure of working together. We were just sort of sitting in the corner going, ‘I can’t believe they are letting us do this!’”

Check out Lady Gaga’s totally dark commercial below. Do you think the spot will be blackballed?
