Adidas isn’t going to be able to count on Derrick Rose to hype his signature sneaker for most of the 2012-13 NBA season. In fact, they may not be able to count on him at all next season, as he’s going to spend the majority of it recovering from the ACL surgery that he had last spring. And, there’s a good chance he might not return at all next year if the Chicago Bulls don’t get off to a good start. So, he’s not really going to get the chance to promote his adidas adiZero Rose 3.0 properly. Or, is he?

As it turns out, adidas has a found a way around the fact that D-Rose won’t be playing much next season. They’re going to create a special documentary called The Return of Derrick Rose that will showcase the road to recovery that Rose takes. You’ll be able to see how he’s doing, what he’s going through in order to rehab his knee, and even get a closer look at all of the things that he has to do in order to make his return to the basketball court. It’s a pretty big risk for adidas, but it’s also a sign that they’re willing to do whatever it takes in order to use Rose’s name to bring some publicity to his Rose 3.0.

Will it work? Ultimately, we probably won’t know until the end of next season when adidas gets a chance to evaluate how the documentary affects their sales. But, we have to give adidas credit for doing whatever it takes to ride their superstar to a victory. There are lots of people out there who really want to know what Rose is up to, and this documentary gives them a great opportunity to find out. So, check out the first offering from it below. And, then let us know if you think this strategy will work for adidas.
