“Are you motherf#$cking with me?”

When Madonna uttered those words during a recent concert in St. Peterburg, she probably never imagined that the response would be a resounding “No!” After the 54-year-old pop star spoke of “love,” “freedom,” and bashed the anti-gay sentiment during a speech in front of millions of concert goers, Russian activists sued Madonna and said that they were offended by her support of gay rights.

Alexander Pochuyev, the lawyer representing the nine activists involved in the case, filed the suit and claimed his clients suffered “psychological stress and emotional shock” as a result of Madonna’s “promotion of homosexuality.” To make matters worse for the “Material Girl,” earlier this year the St. Petersburg parliament banned the “propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bi-sexualism and transgenderism, and pedophilia to minors” and children as young as 12-years-old were in attendance during Madonna’s now-infamous words.

“Maybe someone does not see the link, but after Madonna’s concert maybe some boy becomes gay, some girl becomes lesbian,” Alexei Kolotkov, one of the people involved in the suit, said. “Fewer children are born as a result and this big country cannot defend its borders—for me it causes moral suffering.”

Listen’s to Madonna’s speech below. Do you think Madonna’s words are powerful enough to turn anyone gay as Alexei Kolotkov suggests? Leave your thoughts in the comments sections below.
