Where Are The Rudest Users On Twitter?

A lot of sentiment can be squeezed into a 140 characters- emotions from all across the spectrum of human experience. TwitterHeatmap decided to visualize two of those emotions by mapping out the uses of two seemingly opposite phrases on Twitter over the course of a day: “Good morning” and “Fuck you.” The results show some surprises.

Without thinking, where would we suppose to be the epicenter of “Fuck?” New York City, the veritable capital of the F-word. But New York’s twitter use of the obscenity is eclipsed by LA, Dallas, and even the Buffalo/Toronto area.

As for friendliness, the Big Apple does come out on top! The genial phrase “Good morning” seems to be in use from morning until night, befitting the city that never sleeps. But while the other metropolitan centers also show heavy usage of the greeting, the next biggest center seems to be Lubbock, TX.

The maps show little activity at all for anything in the Midwest and Western states, suggesting that this may simply be representative of the heaviest areas of Twitter usage, and not the trends of those users.

What do you think? Is Twitter right about the friendliest cities?
