A New App Will Help You Hail A Cab In New York City With Your Smartphone
Have you ever tried to hail a cab in New York City? If not, let us describe it for you. You walk onto a corner, which is already filled with three or four other people trying to do the same thing you are, and put your arm out. From there, approximately 50 cabs with their lights turned off drive by you. Then, one that does have its light on approaches you and slows down. The driver takes one look at the ratty old sneakers you’re wearing, thinks, “Ah, this guy isn’t going to tip well,” and drives off. From there, you’re forced to walk 15 blocks in the rain to get wherever it is that you’re going. And…well, you get it. Hailing a cab is, in a word, hell.
But, soon, New Yorkers won’t have that problem anymore! A company called Zabkab has put together an app that’ll let you hail a cab without stepping outside. All you need to do is press a button and cabs in your area will be alerted to the fact that you’re trying to get their attention. One will pull up a few minutes later, and…bam! You will have beaten the system with a free app that does all the dirty work that’s involved with hailing a cab for you.
So, what’s the catch? Well, for now, the only catch is that cabbies will be forced to fork over 10 to 15 bucks a month to get hooked up with Zabkab service. And, while it could be better for their business than their current methods, there’s also a good chance that many cab drivers out there won’t want to pay a monthly fee simply to do their job. So, we’re not sure how effective the app will be initially. But, it couldn’t hurt for you to try it out, right? After all, it sure beats standing out in the rain with 10 other jackasses looking for the one cabbie willing to take you to Times Square, right? Right!
