Why Are Dwight Howard’s New Adidas adiPower Howard 3 Sneakers Red?
The last time we checked, the Los Angeles Lakers have two very distinct uniform colors—purple and gold. There is absolutely no red in the team’s color scheme. They’ve never rocked red alternative jerseys. And, hell, let’s just say that the closest they’ve ever gotten to wearing red was the time Kobe Bryant got really, really angry at Metta World Peace for taking too many three-pointers and actually saw red. But, we digress…
We bring up this up because, for some strange reason, adidas just released photos of Dwight Howard‘s new sneaker, the adidas adiPower Howard 3. And, it is, well, red. It’s also got some black, white, and gray in it and a special “camo” print lining the top part of the upper. But, the sneaker is by and large red. So, did adidas think Howard got traded to the Chicago Bulls this offseason and accidentally create his sneaker using the wrong color or…? Turns out, no. There are reportedly plans to come out with a purple and gold version of this same sneaker. But, for now, adidas launched a colorway that’s not really tied to Howard. If we had to guess, we think adidas probably needed to put something together this summer and didn’t want to end up with a pair of sneakers that featured the wrong team colors. So, they selected one that wasn’t tied to any of the teams he was interested in playing for next year (Howard specifically said he did not want to play for Chicago earlier this year). As a result, his signature sneaker was made using red.
That being said, are you feeling what adidas has done with Howard’s third sneaker? We wouldn’t rock these before we’d rock the adidas sneakers that Derrick Rose wears. But, then again, we probably shouldn’t say that before we see the sneaks that Howard will actually, you know, wear next season (as in, the purple and gold ones!). But, let us know your thoughts on the sneakers below.
