If you haven’t heard by now, Lil Wayne is getting his own Supra sneaker line sometime in early 2013. Weezy, who has been rocking Supras for a long time, reportedly got approached by a number of different sneaker companies who wanted to give him his own line back when he started to show an interest in skateboarding. And, we really can’t blame them. After all, tons of rappers have their own sneakers, and there’s clearly a market for them. So, why not give Wayne his own sneakers?

We never really understood exactly how Wayne linked up with Supra, though. Earlier this year, the announcement just sort of came out of left field. So, recently, MTV News caught up with Lil Wayne to talk about his relationship with Supra, which apparently started shortly after he began rocking the brand. One of his skater friends Stevie Williams, who also has his own Supra sneaker, introduced Wayne to the people behind the brand and, from there, he agreed to produce a line through them. As a result, he just debuted some of the sneakers he’s got coming out at Magic in Las Vegas in anticipation of the line dropping in 2013.

You can watch the interview that MTV News did with Wayne below. But, first, tell us whether or not you’re actually interested in purchasing a sneaker created by Lil Wayne. If you’re a skater, it might not be a bad idea since Wayne is obviously very interested in skating right now and probably wanted to come up with a design that would work well for him. But, for those of you who aren’t into skating, are you at all interested in wearing a Lil Wayne sneaker? Or, will you stick to regular Supras when you wear the brand? Let us know in the comments section below.
