It saddens me to report the death of beloved actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who’s best known for his roles in films like The Green Mile and Armageddon. The Chicago native died earlier today in Los Angeles.

Michael suffered from a myocardial infarction in mid-July, but was resuscitated by his fiancée, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth. At the time, a publicist for the Academy Award nominated performer expressed hope that he would make a full recovery, but according to TMZ:

“…his passing came very suddenly. We’re told his fiancee, Omarosa Manigault, was with him in his hospital room in Los Angeles and left for a short period of time. When she returned … he had died.

Our sources say Omarosa’s mother was with him when he passed.”

Michael’s first experience with Hollywood came courtesy of his work as a bodyguard for celebrities like Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, and LL Cool J. While still providing security to the stars, Michael landed bit parts in television and films. His big break came when he was cast as Bear in Armageddon, which starred Bruce Willis. His friendship with Willis (and Willis’ influence) led to his breakout role as John Coffey in The Green Mile.

He will be missed.
