First Trailer For The Bay: Oscar-Winner Makes A Found Footage Horror Movie
Barry Levinson is many things: an Oscar-winning director, a prolific television producer, and a tech gadget fanatic, just to name a few. But he is not generally considered to be a creator of genre films, which makes the trailer for his new horror film The Bay all the more weird:
The first look does feature some Levinson signatures- the Baltimore, Maryland area (Levinson’s hometown), and, well, that’s about it, unless Levinson regulars Dustin Hoffman or Robin Williams were hidden in there somewhere.
To be fair, Levinson’s TV work shows more genre experience. Homicide and Oz were seminal cop and prison dramas respectively, and his new show Copper on BBC America blends the cop theme with 19th century costume drama.
But none of that seems to have prepared Levinson for horror. Indeed, The Bay seems to be all over the place- throwing together shaky cameras, zombies, medical outbreaks, cops, and maybe aliens? It’s The Walking Dead meets Paranormal Activity meets Contagion meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Oy. Let’s hope it’s better when we can see the full story play out.
