Joe Biden Cozies Up With Biker Woman

Sometimes, life imitates art.

Yes, you read that headline right. During a campaign stop at an Ohio diner, Vice President Joe Biden was photographed in what can only be described as playful “canoodling” with a female biker, sitting close and speaking in her ear. Though a photo can capture a fleeting moment, an NPR report suggests that Biden welcomed the close proximity and the two sat like that for a little while; and the whole story is told by the expressions on the faces of the two male bikers, who exchange an uncomfortable, knowing look as they sit awkwardly around Biden and his new buddy.

As another NPR article suggests, in that moment, Biden became the version of himself that has been portrayed for the last four years in the satirical newspaper The Onion.

The Onion has written an entire series of articles describing the fictionalized Biden’s blue-collar exploits in sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. This Biden has washed his Trans-Am in the White House driveway (shirtless, in a pair of denim cut-offs); invoked the Freedom of Information Act to get a woman’s number; “cooled his heels” in Mexico for a while; and most recently regaled the DNC with stories about his epic summer of ’87, when “the skirts were short, the brews were cold, and you couldn’t walk 2 feet without stepping into some grade-A tang.”

I don’t know quite where this hilarious parody of Biden came from, or what (if anything) it is specifically mocking; it seems to be equal parts Biden’s blue collar roots, his somewhat-regular public gaffes, and the near-irrelevance that plagues any Vice President.

No word yet on whether Onion writers will continue to parody Biden in this manner, or whether he’s just outdone them for good.

What do you think?
