Even Though He’s Been Retired For Years Now, Barry Sanders Just Got A New Pair Of Nike Sneakers

On the football field, there’s no denying that Barry Sanders was one of the greatest NFL players—and greatest athletes—ever. If you’re too young to have seen him play, do yourself a favor and go catch some highlights of him on YouTube. Back in the day, there was nobody that could stop him. And, he didn’t have the luxury of playing on a great team, either. He played on the hapless Detroit Lions and still managed to make his mark on the league and go down as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. In fact, he was so good that he’s still getting his props today.

Although he’s been out of the game of football for more than a decade now, Sanders recently got his very own Nike sneaker after making an appearance in the new Madden 2013 game. To coincide with the start of the 2012-13 NFL season, EA Sports teamed up with Nike to create a special makeup of the Nike Lunar TR1, appropriately called the “Barry Sanders.” It’s features the regular Lunar TR1 design, but what makes it extra special is that it’s been painted bright orange in honor of Sanders’ alma mater Oklahoma State University. Coupled with the white sole, the orange really pops and makes these sneakers stand out. And, in addition to the color, EA also added their logo to the tongue of the sneaker and a photo of Sanders playing in the Madden 2013 game to the insole.

These are (obviously) a promotional item for the Madden game. But, what do you think about them? There’s been no word about if or when these will be sold. But, we’d guess that they’re going to be given away to a lucky few people. So, keep a close eye on eBay if you want to get your hands on them. But, you’d better act fast: Like Barry Sanders, these things are going to move quickly when they finally become available. So, you better not hesitate if you want to pick up a pair.
