Samsung Ad Blasts iPhone 5

In a new ad, Apple’s bitter rival (and constant courtroom opponent) Samsung put the companies’ two flagship phones up for a side-by-side comparison. But some say a more honest evaluation wouldn’t be so flattering for the competitor.

Clearly taking a stab at Apple Store “Geniuses,” Samsung’s ad runs under the title, “It doesn’t take a genius.” The iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III are pictured, with major attributes from each listed beneath.

The ad focuses on the Galaxy’s superior qualities, like a larger screen, more battery life, and more storage. The phone’s characteristics also run far longer than the iPhone’s, creating a visual sense of the iPhone’s “shortcomings.”

While this is no surprise for an advertisement, Steve Kovach at Business Insider points out that Samsung doesn’t really provide a balanced comparison. The ad cherry-picks some Samsung features that don’t have a clear counterpart in the iPhone, and ignores features from the iPhone that the Galaxy can’t provide “like Facebook and Twitter integration, AirPlay, and access to thousands of more apps.”

Personally, I think this ad, which appears to be an unofficial internet meme (or non-fluent overseas ad), communicates the same message, but a lot faster and funnier:
