Jimmy Fallon Turns Abraham Lincoln Into Pee Wee Herman

Many have criticized Daniel Day-Lewis choices regarding President Abraham Lincoln‘s voice in the first trailer for Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln- but that’s nothing compared to what Late Night‘s Jimmy Fallon did. Fallon used his spot on Pee Wee Herman impression to turn the teaser into something else entirely.

I’m just wondering why they didn’t get Paul Reubens to do it. What’s he so busy with? In fact, why didn’t Reubens play Lincoln instead of Day-Lewis?

By the way, written accounts from Lincoln’s time actually state that the 16th president had a “high” and “shrill” voice, not the velvety baritone we associate with him now. (Maybe latter-day admirers couldn’t believe that the Great Emancipator sounded like a Muppet.) So Day-Lewis is probably pretty close- and maybe Fallon is even closer.
