Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska Get Really Creepy In Stoker

Korean director Chan-wook Park (Oldboy) is bringing his blood-soaked brand of gothic horror and vengeance to America with Stoker, and the first trailer looks suitably creepy. Starring Nicole Kidman as a mother from hell, Mia Wasikowska as a jilted teen mourning her father, and Matthew Goode as a mysterious uncle who suddenly shows up and gets really cozy with Mom, the film looks kind of like a female Hamlet- if the melancholy Dane hadn’t been such a sissy.

I raised my eyebrows at some of the dialogue and stilted deliveries (“Hey Stoker… or should I say, Stroker!”)- especially if these were included in the trailer as representative of the whole film. But maybe it will all add up to create a heightened, non-realist tone for what looks like a violent and dark twist on domestic drama.

What do you think of the first look at Stoker?
