The New NBA 2K13 Video Game Features The “2K Shoe Creator” And Extra Emphasis On Signature Sneakers

I have to be honest: I haven’t been a huge fan of video games for awhile now. So, I’m pretty sure that the last NBA 2K game that I played was, like, NBA 2K7 or something. And, when I played it, I didn’t pay attention to the sneakers that players were wearing at all. In fact, it never even crossed my mind to do so. What sneakers a player was wearing just wasn’t a very big priority for me when I played the game. I was more concerned with the action that was going on. But, for NBA 2K13, 2K Sports has left no stone—or, should we say shoe?—unturned.

Rather than just strap any old pair of sneakers to a player’s feet, 2K Sports has taken a number of painstakingly detailed steps in order to make sure that each and every NBA player is wearing their signature sneaker. And, they’ve also added the “2K Shoe Creator” that allows you to create your own custom sneakers for the player that you create in the game. Additionally, they’ve teamed up with everyone from Nike and Reebok to Adidas and Converse to Under Armour and even Spalding to make sure that there are a variety of different sneakers available in the Shoe Creator.

As a result of this move, there’s an added emphasis on the sneakers that players wear that wasn’t there before. Does that make the game any better or worse? Not really. But, it does keep the action authentic and it does make each and every player look even more unique than they already do. You might not necessarily notice it every time you press play on the game. But, it allows 2K Sports to put out a game that’s newer and fresher than the one it released last year.

To hear more about the “2K Shoe Creator” and the thought that went into the sneakers that players wear, check out the clip below. It’ll give you a much better idea about how and why 2K Sports put such an emphasis on sneakers this year. And, it’s just one more reason for you to run out and pick up this game ASAP when it drops on October 2.
