A Hong Kong Tycoon Has Offered $65 Million To Any Man Who Marries His Gay Daughter

Hong Kong real estate and shipping tycoon Cecil Chao Sze-Tung wants his 33-year-old daughter Gigi to get married. Actually, check that. Gigi is already reportedly married—to a woman. But, Sze-Tung—who is known for being a playboy—wants her to get married to a man. Although he denies that she is married to a woman and hasn’t publicly commented on her sexual orientation, Sze-Tung wants her to marry a man so badly that he has made a pretty ridiculous offer to any potential suitors out there: He’s offered $65 million to any man who can woo his daughter and make her his wife. And, he’s not being picky.

“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor,” he said recently. “The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted. Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous, and does volunteer work.”

As you might expect, there have been plenty of offers for her hand in marriage already with men from all over the world sending her tweets and trying to contact her on Facebook in order to land a big payday for themselves. In fact, it’s gotten so out of hand that Gigi took to her Facebook page late last week to comment on it.

“Where do all these people come from?” she asked. “Jerusalem? Ethiopia? Istanbul? Ridiculous.”

She took the word right out of our mouth. Ridiculous. That’s what this is. Outside of the fact that, in 2012, it seems a little silly for the father of a girl to offer a dowry to men, it also seems ridiculous that Sze-Tung has set up a fund that’s seemingly designed to try and change his daughter’s sexual orientation. We could understand if he was desperate for her to get married for other reasons. But, by all accounts, he’s only offered money to all the men out there because he doesn’t approve of the lifestyle his daughter is leading. Well, either that, or because he simply wants to make headlines.

“He loves the attention,” Gigi says.

And, right now, he’s getting plenty of it. Too bad it’s for all the wrong reasons.
