Is Lark Voorhies Bi-Polar?

In the early 90s, many an adolescent tuned into NBC’s Saved by the Bell on Saturdays to watch the exploits of the Bayside High gang, including the popular and fashionable Lisa Turtle, who was played by actress Lark Voorhies. In reality, Lark was just as popular as her small screen alter ego. But in spite of a seemingly promising acting career, after the show went off the air, the 38-year-old maintained a relatively low profile, with the exception of a few made-for-TV movies and guest appearances. Recently, Lark has reemerged into the spotlight, but her odd behavior during a few interviews (blank stares and incoherent answers aplenty!) and dead wrong red carpet makeup choices is leaving many scratching their heads and wondering the same thing…what the hell is up with Lark Voorhies?

Trying to shed some light on the subject, Lark’s mother recently revealed that her daughter’s strange behavior can be attributed to bipolar disorder, a serious medical condition that causes shifts in a person’s mood, energy, and ability to function. That would explain a lot, but Lark is brushing off her mother’s claim that she has the illness. According to PEOPLE:

“In a series of interviews with PEOPLE, it was clear something wasn’t right. Voorhies, 38, would frequently stop mid-sentence and stare off, often mumbling to herself or to others who weren’t there.

There are things that have traumatized her,’ says Tricia, 64, who shares a home with her daughter in Pasadena, Calif. ‘I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life.’

Voorhies says her ‘over-loving’ mother worries about her, but there’s no need. She says she is not sick and keeps busy by working on low-budget indie productions, recording music and self-publishing her own books.”

Lark blames her rambling and spaced-out appearance in recent interviews on her spirituality, telling PEOPLE, “I have a strong spiritual sense. You caught me in moments of pray [sic].”

Uh yeah, okay. Blame God.
