5 Crazy NFL Predictions That Might Just Come True This Season

We’re officially a quarter of the way through the 2012-13 NFL season. Eh, okay, so technically we’re almost a quarter of the way through the NFL season (a few teams had their bye week last week and won’t be playing their fourth game of the season until today) but just about all 32 NFL teams are already taking a look back at their first quarter of the season and assessing where they’re at. Some feel really good about where they stand today (the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals, for instance) while others like the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns are already looking forward to the 2013-14 NFL season. But, there’s still a ton of football to be played this year, and anything can happen.

With that in mind, we wanted to go ahead and take what we’ve learned so far this year and make a few predictions for the rest of the NFL season. Now that we know who has a real chance of making the NFL playoffs and who doesn’t, we think that we can nail these predictions. So, take a look at the 5 Crazy NFL Predictions That Might Just Come True This Season that we’ve put together. Call us crazy, but we believe!

Prediction #1: The Green Bay Packers will miss the NFL Playoffs.

WTF? Yeah, we told you some of these were going to be crazy. And, having the Pack miss the playoffs definitely qualifies as “crazy.” But, here’s the thing: GB’s defense is terrible right now and they have a pretty tough schedule from here on out with games against the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, and all three of their NFC Central divisions still left to play. It’s going to be close. But, this team isn’t going to dominate the NFC like they have in the past. So, look for them to just miss out on making the playoffs this year, which will come as a huge surprise to just about everyone out there.

Prediction #2: The New York Jets will finish in last place in the AFC East.

Throw out their Week 1 win against the Buffalo Bills, and the Jets have been an absolute abomination this season. And now that both their best cornerback Darrelle Revis and their best offensive weapon Santonio Holmes are out for the year, this team has almost no hope left. Sorry, Jets fans. But, you’ll be lucky to win one or two more games from here on out.

Prediction #3: The Houston Texans will almost go undefeated.

The Texans schedule isn’t exactly a cakewalk. They’ve got the Packers, the Baltimore Ravens, the Chicago Bears, and the New England Patriots still to play. But, fortunately, the Texans play most of their tougher opponents at home this season. They also play in the weakest division in football and should be able to go 6-0 against AFC South opponents. So, don’t be surprised if they’re the team that goes 12-0 or 13-0 this year and makes a real push at putting together an undefeated season.

Prediction #4: The Minnesota Vikings will make the playoffs.

The Vikings?! Yes, the Vikings. Every year, there’s one team that comes out of nowhere and makes a playoff push even though they have no business doing it. With wins against the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions under their belt already, Minnesota is that team. They play a favorable schedule. Their quarterback Christian Ponder has looked pretty decent this year. And, their defense looks much better this season than it did last year. So, while it might be crazy to think they can make the playoffs, we think it’s possible.

Prediction #5: The Arizona Cardinals will make it to the NFC Championship Game.

Defense wins championships, right? Er, at least that’s what we’ve been told for years now. And, the Cards have one hell of a defense. They’re also doing a good job of finding ways to win games that they shouldn’t necessarily win. They did it earlier this year against the Seattle Seahawks, and they did it last week against the Miami Dolphins. So, we don’t just see them making the playoffs. We see them making a lot of noise once they get there thanks to their stellar D. Wait, the Cards lost to the Rams on Thursday night?! Oh well. Chalk that one up as a fluke. We still see this team going far this season thanks to their stellar D. Crazy.
