Nicole Scherzinger Reveals She Was Bulimic: “I Hated Myself”

Every single morning when I wake up, after I thank God for my life, my family, and the breath to enjoy another day of living, I always say a little thanks that I get to wear clothes to go to work. It sounds funny, but for a lot of women, their jobs require that they wear very little. Think dancers, singers, gymnasts, models, actresses and, of course, female pop stars.

Every day when these women go to “work” and step onstage, in front of the cameras, or into that arena, they expose more skin then I could ever imagine showing anyone other than my boyfriend, my mom and, if I’m forced, my good old family doctor. So, it’s no surprise that while I may feel comfortable indulging in that extra slice of cake or piece of pizza, many celebrities feel the need to be perfect at all times and therefore struggle with bulimia, anorexia, or other eating disorders.

Last week, Lady Gaga was just the latest in a long line of stars to admit she suffered from bulimia. This week, Nicole Scherzinger followed suit. In an interview with “Behind the Music” that aired last night on VH1, the former Pussycat Dolls front-woman admitted her battle with body image.

“I hated myself. I really was so disgusted with myself and so embarrassed. I felt so alone. I was in a group, and I never felt so alone in my life,” the 34-year-old singer said. “It’s embarrassing. I never spoke about it. Like I said, I never want to play a victim, and I never wanted my family to hear about things from me because I think it would break their heart, you know? I guess it was like my addiction, right? I never did drugs, but kinda doing things to myself was my addiction. It’s like when I got offstage, I was on this high, and I’d come back to my room and I’d be alone, so I would just do things. My bulimia was my addiction; hurting myself was my addiction.”

Not so ironically, Scherzinger admits her battle with bulimia began when she was given a bra, panties, and garters to wear to work onstage. Listen to Nicole’s shocking confessions below and thank your lucky stars if you get to wear more than lingerie in your place of business.
