Are you ready to “go purple” today? For the third consecutive year, tech companies like Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram are going to be “going purple”—or, more specifically, turning their logos purple—in order to show support for GLAAD‘s #SpiritDay. #SpiritDay, which was established back in 2010 by GLAAD, is a day devoted to standing up against bullying. In short, it’s meant to bring awareness to the issue of bullying and show all those out there who are currently being bullied that people are trying to put an end to it.

So, what can you do to help? Well, for starters, you can go ahead and use this app to change your Facebook profile photo to one that supports the “go purple” movement. It will help you add a purplish hue to your photo, and it’ll show that you are supporting #SpiritDay. Secondly, you can check out the “Storyboard” page on Tumblr. It’s been redesigned for the day to help promote #SpiritDay. And, lastly, you can tweet out messages with the hashtag #SpiritDay and head over to the GLAAD homepage to learn more about what #SpiritDay is and how you can help promote it.

In 2012, the issue of bullying is bigger than ever. More and more kids—and adults, for that matter—are being bullied and suffering as a result of it. So, it’s an important issue that we all need to pay more attention to in our everyday lives. Obviously, turning your Facebook photo purple or simply tweeting out #SpiritDay messages for one day won’t help change the world in a big way. But, it will reaffirm your belief that bullying is an important topic in today’s world that we all need to take a little bit more seriously throughout the year. So, get involved like Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram and help get the word out today. Are you up for the challenge?
