Missouri Pastor Makes Anti-Gay Speech… But Wait Until The End

In a popular YouTube video circulating the web today, A Christian pastor in Missouri rises to speak against a local ordinance that would outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. But then, he throws the audience a curveball.

The meeting was in August, but the video only came to prominence this week.

Rev. Dr. Phil Snider of the Brentwood Christian Church begins by strongly denouncing homsexuality, saying it is against the word of God. He lashes out against the secular government of Springfield, MO, for considering such a measure, and for condoning the union of two such people.

***Spoiler Alert***

In the final moments of his speech, Snider reveals that everything he has said was a direct quotation from arguments in favor of racial segregation from the middle of the century; he simply replaced the words “black people” with “gays and lesbians.” Rev. Snider then implores the city government not to make the same mistakes that segregationists made.

Confused? Snider’s speech was one long set up to make a point arguing for gay rights.

(C’mon- in retrospect, it’s kinda obvious that a young preacher with hip glasses and hair would be on that side.)

What do you think of Snider’s speech?
