Amazon Takes A Shot At Apple & The iPad Mini On Their Homepage

Let the games begin!

Last week, Apple announced that they would be releasing the Apple iPad Mini early next month—a move that was clearly aimed at putting Apple in direct competition with Amazon and their Kindle Fire HD. For months now, we’ve heard rumors about the iPad Mini and, although Steve Jobs had dismissed the idea of creating a miniature version of the iPad when he was still alive, Apple did in fact come out and announce that they’ll be entering the market with a smaller iPad on November 2. And, naturally, Amazon is pretty upset about it.

How upset is Amazon? Well, earlier this week they altered their homepage slightly to show their disgust with Apple. Specifically, they started running a new ad that features a glowing review of the Kindle Fire HD as compared to the iPad Mini.

“…your [Apple's] 7.9-inch tablet has far less pixels than the competing 7-inch tablets!” a quote from Gizmodo boasted across the top of the page. “You’re cramming a worse screen in there, charging more, and accusing others of compromise? Ballsy.”

Ballsy, indeed. But, we’re not talking about the move that Apple made. We’re talking about the one that Amazon made when they decided to feature this quote at the top of their site. They didn’t stop there, either. In addition to running the quote from Gizmodo, Amazon also included a chart on their homepage featuring a rundown of all the specs that the Kindle Fire HD has in comparison to the specs that the iPad Mini has. It’s a ballsy move that will either help them out tremendously—or make them look really petty in the eyes of consumers.

So, what do you think about the shots that were just fired by Amazon at Apple? Does it make you want to pick up a Kindle Fire HD instead of an iPad Mini? Or, do you prefer the original iPad over both? Let us know.
