As we previously told you, Natina Reed, best known for her work as one of the three members of the girl group Blaque, was killed over the weekend when she was struck by a car as she crossed a street in Atlanta. The Queens, NY native is survived by a 10-year-old son named Tren, whose father is rapper Kurupt. A few days ago, the west coast hip-hop legend released a statement about Natina’s death, which said:

“Myself and Tren, Natina’s son, would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this tragic time. This is a tremendous loss to our family. Natina was a great person and I wish everyone had the opportunity to meet her and know her as I did.”

In an interview, Natina’s father revealed that her cell phone may have contributed to her death. He told WSB-TV Atlanta:

“She was on the phone. She was walking across the street on the phone, and the next thing she’s on the floor.”

Co-signing Natina’s father’s theory that talking on the phone played a role in her death, her mother added:

“I’m sure it played a big part in it, so I’m asking anyone who will view this tape to please be conscientious of the cellphones.”

This situation has tragedy written all over it. It’s a horrific example of why it’s important that people not use their cell phone while they’re doing something that comes with inherent dangers. Crossing a busy road in the middle of the night definitely falls under that category.

According to police, no charges are pending against the driver that hit Natina, who would have turned 33 on Sunday. Reportedly, her parents are planning a public wake and funeral for Friday and Saturday.
