Gilbert Arenas Is Taking An Impressive Collection Of Sneakers With Him To Play In China
Just a few years ago, Gilbert Arenas was balling his you-know-what off in the NBA. As a member of the Washington Wizards, Arenas—who nicknamed himself “Hibachi” because of his ability to get hot from beyond the three-point line—looked like he was well on his way to becoming one of the greatest players in Wizards franchise history. But then, a series of knee injuries plagued his career and, last season, he struggled to contribute in a big way during a stint with the Memphis Grizzlies. So, this season, Arenas will be playing in Guangdong of the Chinese Basketball Association.
Don’t worry, though. We’ll probably still be hearing plenty about Arenas. If not for his skills on the court, we’ll be hearing about Arenas and his seemingly endless collection of crazy sneakers. Earlier this week, he threw up a photo of him sitting next to some luggage and a bunch of crazy sneakers that he’ll be taking with him to China. Included in his collection? A pair of Air Jordan XIII “Flint” sneakers, a pair of Nike Air Yeezy 2 sneakers, a pair of Nike Air Penny V “Orlando” sneakers, and the Nike Air Jordan VII/VIII “Golden Moments” Pack. Pretty impressive, Gil.
Unless Gil’s deal with Guangdong falls apart (there were rumors about a snag in negotiations earlier in the week), look for him to start playing with the team very soon. And, when he does, look for him to be wearing one of the sneakers that you see spread across the table in front of him. If you were him, which ones would you wear first? Which ones would you save (the Yeezy 2?!) instead of sporting on the court? And, which ones would you keep locked away in your closet in America? Stay tuned to see what he pulls out when he finally touches down there.
