Are You Addicted To Facebook?

In the past decade or two, computers and the Internet have undeniably changed the way we live our lives, and even the way we think. An extensive new infographic on Internet addiction, shown below, is making the rounds on (yep) the Internet today, condensing much of the information and statistics on the growing problem.

Personally, I’m a little skeptical of the chart. While it lists several sources at the bottom, it does not specifically note what facts correspond with which study or article. Also, media has a tendency to overhype “threats.” And of course, the chart comes from a website promoting careers in psychology.

But the inclusion of “Internet Addiction Disorder” in the upcoming edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is a major development, even with the qualification that the condition is “tagged ‘for further review.’” The DSM is an authoritative guide, and inclusion (or exclusion) is considered an important step in officially addressing and legitimizing a newly recognized disease.

What do you think? Do you show signs of internet addiction?
