Jimmy Kimmel Live Finds Out: Do People Lie About Voting?

Quick- did you vote on Tuesday? Everyone’s waiting for your answer. Say no, and you might be subject to ridicule and lengthy lectures about “civic responsibility.”

The producers of Jimmy Kimmel Live were well aware of both Americans’ fear of peer pressure and our laziness. So to see just how desperate and uniformed we can be, they hit the streets to ask people if they had voted that day. On Monday. Before any polls were open.

Ok, one of those guys was clearly stoned. But the rest have no excuse.

Voter turnout this year appears to fall well short of 2008, when Barack Obama leveraged increased turnout and many first-time voters for his momentous victory. In fact, turnout dropped in every single state- although with preliminary estimates at or near 60% of eligible voters, it’s not the worst it’s ever been.

But if all those people who worried about looking bad actually went out and voted, it could be a lot higher.

Did you vote on Tuesday? Did you lie about voting? (It’s ok to tell us here, you’re anonymous on the internet!)
