Papa John’s CEO Obamacare Complaint Backfires

Submitted by on November 10, 2012 – 10:14 pmOne Comment

CEO of Papa John’s Pizza, John Schnatter, has long been a vocal opponent of the Affordable Care Act, and was a major donor to the campaign of Mitt Romney. Now that Barack Obama has won re-election, Schattner is doubling down on his criticism, claiming that pizza prices will rise more than he anticipated ($0.50) and employees will see their hours cut to compensate for new healthcare policies. But consumers aren’t proving sympathetic to the “plight” of a multi-millionaire so resistant to providing his employees with additional benefits.

The Huffington Post reports:

Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter said he plans on passing the costs of health care reform to his business onto his workers. Schnatter said he will likely reduce workers’ hours, as a result of President Obama’s reelection, the Naples News reports. Schnatter made headlines over the summer when he told shareholders that the cost of a Papa John’s pizza will increase by between 11 and 14 cents due to Obamacare.

When Schnatter made similar comments over the summer, it sent the company’s social media reputation spiraling.

This week, popular social news site Reddit tore in to Schnatter, wondering why he has not already increased prices slightly to give his employees healthcare, and creating the meme “Scumbag John Schnatter.”

What do you think about Papa John’s move?
