Alicia Keys Still Defending Herself Against Rumors She Broke Up Swizz Beatz First Marriage

Alicia Keys is still defending herself against rumors that she began dating her current husband Swizz Beatz while he was still married to his first wife, Mashonda Tifrere. The “Girl On Fire” singer has taken a lot of heat since many people blame her for Swizz’s split from Mashonda, including Mashonda herself.

Although Alicia remained mum on the rumors at the start of her relationship with the hip-hop super producer, she’s now defending herself in interviews, including in a recent interview in the new issue of JET. She told the mag of the allegations that she’s a homewrecker:

“…[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together…that doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down…there’s no need to fight what’s not true…”

Adding she and Swizz “live in each other’s shadow” (I think that one went right over my head because I don’t know what the hell that means), Alicia said of their marriage:

“I’d never met a person where I could be fully myself…Swizz and I live in each other’s shadow. So we can occupy the same space and there is nothing but equality. There’s something really powerful about that.”

I can’t say with certainty that Alicia broke up Swizz’s marriage with Mashonda, but what I do know is that she and Swizz have been married for over two years now and have an adorable son together. At this point, talking about this situation is like beating a dead horse.

You can read the rest of Alicia’s interview when the new issue of JET hits newsstands on Monday, November 19th.
