Numerous hip-hop heads have a not-so-secret obsession with comic books, so it’s no surprise New York-based rapper P.SO The Earth Tone King is releasing his official debut album with an accompanying graphic novel.

Nearly two years in the making, The Gateway to Greatness is P.SO’s otherworldly album and graphic novel combo designed to give fans a completely original experience.

“There are so many ‘pockets’ and styles of rap it’s difficult for some fans to relate to some of the emerging sub-genres,” says the artist, originally from Buffalo, New York. “I designed Gateway to bridge these gaps.

“I want fans to think of Gateway as an experience, not just an album. When you add the graphic novel and the eventual set of videos, there will be a lot of content to consume.”

According to P.SO’s team, the graphic novel (a 45-page collaboration with illustrator Anway Morse) centers around a starving comic book artist who discovers elements of the supernatural that ultimately turn his world upside down. The comic coincides with the tracks on the album and the first chapter is available in the album’s digital booklet.

“I became a little disappointed and disinterested with the music scene,” P.SO admits. “I knew that if I was going to continue as an artist, I had to do something special, something epic. “I didn’t want to just paint a picture; I want to build a museum.”
