Christmas Gift Gadget Will Help You Drive While Distracted

The Parrot Minikit Neo is a voice activated personal assistant for the car that’s becoming a hot item this holiday season. But for all the hands-free, eyes-on-the-road capability, is it really that much safer than texting or talking while driving?

The device clips onto your sun visor, and syncs up with up to two Bluetooth-enabled phones simultaneously. You can then initiate calls and texts, accept or decline incoming phone calls, and hear text messages, all using voice controls, as illustrated by this cartoon about brainstorming a birthday present:

While I understand that fashionable ladies chatting with their friends and loved ones about shopping is of course an urgent matter, here’s another idea: ignore your phone until you get to your destination. Neurological research continues to prove that the brain can’t actually focus on multiple things at the exact same moment, making multitasking a bit of a myth; so maybe a better gift for your motorist friends and family would be a CD of some soothing background music.

What do you think of the Parrot Minikit Neo?
