Are The Seattle Seahawks The Most Dangerous Team In The NFL?

Who saw this coming?

After losing to the Miami Dolphins coming off of a bye week, the Seattle Seahawks were 6-5 and had an outside shot of making the playoffs. With a rookie quarterback under center, nobody felt that they would be a threat to the San Francisco 49ers nor the NFC. Something changed though that turned the Seahawks into a relentless beast on both sides of the ball, causing them to destroy opponents.

It happened in the 4th quarter of their showdown with the Chicago Bears. Down four, Russell Wilson knew the season was on the line and drove his team 97 yards against a stifling Bears defense to put his team up by three. The Bears would send it to overtime, but Wilson’s throw to Sidney Rice in OT gave the Seahawks the much needed victory and an adrenaline shot that has seen them massacre their next three opponents. They wiped out Arizona at home 58-0 before heading into Buffalo and rolling to a 50-17 victory. Wilson, running back Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks defense were dominant. But nobody thought they could keep it up against the 49ers. But they did. A 42-13 pounding has now served notice to every team in the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks are for real.

Wilson, meanwhile, has launched himself into a close race for ROY honors alongside Robert Griffin III with his dazzling performances. He’s thrown for 2,868 yards with 25 TDs (second only to Peyton Manning for most TDs thrown by a rookie). His QB rating is a massive 98. Marshawn Lynch may be standing in the shadows of Adrien Peterson‘s awe inspiring season, but his 1490 yards rushing is nothing to sneeze at. He’s currently second in the NFL in that category while also scoring 11 TDs, also second in the league. And that defense? Yikes. They’ve given up a league low 232 points.

The scariest thing to watch for is the fact that they are hot right now. The last few Super Bowl champions have all been teams that caught fire at the end of the year and rolled into the playoffs riding that hot streak. If Seattle keeps this up, they won’t need a first round bye, they just might ride the streak to a Super Bowl title.
