German Archbishop: “Jesus Would Be On Facebook”

And you thought being Facebook friends with your parents was bad. The head of the Catholic Church in Germany said this week that the Son of God would be scrolling through your party photos on his NewsFeed if he were alive today.

English-language paper The Local reports on the speculation:

“Jesus would certainly today be on Facebook and Twitter,” said Freiburg Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, who is chairman of the German Bishops’ Conference, on Monday.

“He was always looking for people, and took unusual routes to do this,” he told the Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper.

This comes just weeks after Pope Benedict opened a Twitter account, joining other religious leaders like the Dalai Lama on the social network.

I don’t know if I agree with the archbishop’s conclusion. As we read in the Gospel of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jesus knowingly came at “such a backward time,” even though “Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication.” The Big Guy must have had a reason. If he came today, maybe Jesus would be on MySpace with only the die hard faithful.

What do you think?
