The Jordan Brand is taking some real risks when it comes to designing sneakers right now. Just last month, they gave us a sneak peek at the Air Jordan XX8 for the first time, and we were blown away (in both good ways and bad ways) by what they had managed to come up with when it came time to design Michael Jordan‘s signature sneaker. And, we have to admit: Although we’ve seen numerous photos of the Melo M9 out in the wild in recent weeks, we were surprised in a similar way when we got our first official look at the M9 from Jordan Brand. It definitely features some risks when it comes to the design of the sneaker.

From the Flywire straps that are included on the sneaker to the entire look and feel of it, it’s pretty clear that Carmelo Anthony and Jordan Brand were trying to turn a few heads when they concocted this sneaker. According to the Jordan Brand, the sneaker was inspired by Melo’s love for high-end watches as well as armored superhero suits. So, with that in mind, it’s easy to see how they landed on this particular design. It’ll also turn some heads because Jordan Brand went out of their way to make this sneaker weight just 13 ounces, which makes it the lightest Melo signature shoe to date. It was made to withstand the beating that a guy like Melo puts on his sneakers but also to look sleek and to be adaptive for basketball players.

“After working closely with the Jordan Brand team during development stages,” Melo said in an official press release for the sneaker, “the Jordan Melo M9 fits my game perfectly.”

Do you think it’ll fit your game perfectly, too? Or, are all of the details involved with the design of Melo’s new sneaker a little bit too much for you? Check out some more colorways of the sneaker below and then let us know what you think about the Jordan Brand’s latest creation.

The Melo M9 will be available for $140 beginning on January 9.
