Robot Band Plays “Ace Of Spades”
How do you get even more metal than Motörhead? With actually metal. Say hello to Compressorhead, the all-robot musical group that claims to be “the heaviest metal band” (weighing in at six tons) in the world. A video of the three androids playing the classic thrasher anthem “Ace of Spades” went viral these week, hopefully not presaging another area where humans are becoming irrelevant.
They do rock pretty hard. They even head-bang.
But are they superior to a human group? Compressorhead’s website points out that the guitarist (Fingers) has 78 fingers, and the drummer (Stickboy) has four arms.
But in some ways, they appear about equal to their fleshy counter parts: Stickboy has “no brain” (zing!) and plays so loud that it drowns out the other two.
And no vocals? Surely computer voice-generation technology is advanced enough to chant a little, if not outright sing.
For the moment, I’d say humans are safe. But robots are making great advances, so we better watch our backs. Combine Compressorhead’s hardcore sound with an army of Harvard’s tiny synchronized kilobots, not to mention hamburger-making capabilities, and we could be in big trouble.
