Naomi Campbell Talks Cell Phone-Throwing Past And Tyra Banks
Supermodel Naomi Campbell is as famous for her phone-throwing past as she is for her killer strut down the runway. Her alleged weapon of choice is a Blackberry, which she has been accused of using to assault various associates and employees over the years.
The most notable “assault by Blackberry” incident involved Naomi’s former housekeeper Ana Scolavino, who claimed the British beauty threw one of the popular smartphones at her. In 2007, Naomi pleaded guilty to assault over the altercation, and infamously performed five days of community service with New York’s sanitation department, wearing designer clothes no less.
The incident is something Namoi admits she’ll probably never get away from. In a recent interview with ELLE magazine for their February issue, she said:
“I’m never gonna get away from [the cell phone throwing incident]. It’s part of my history. I was remorseful and regretful. I’ve served. I did that time. And I never want to be in that position again.”
Blackberry throwing tantrums aside, Naomi is currently busy promoting her upcoming Oxygen reality model competition The Face, where contestants will be challenged and mentored by some of the world’s most successful and talented supermodels in the quest to become the face of a major national brand. Naomi revealed that she doesn’t give much thought to the other reality model shows, even the one hosted by her (former) arch-nemesis and fellow supermodel, Tyra Banks. She told ELLE:
“I don’t watch the other reality model shows. I’ll never have anything to say. If you ask me about Tyra Banks, I’m proud of her as a woman of color. She’s given girls opportunity, and God bless her.”
The February issue of ELLE hits newsstands everywhere on January 15.
