Mary J. Blige & Angela Bassett Take You Behind-The-Scenes Of Betty & Coretta
Mary J. Blige and Angela Bassett join forces to deliver a performance that will go down in history.
The leading ladies go back in time in the upcoming Lifetime film, Betty & Coretta. Nine-time Grammy Award-winning singer Blige stars as Betty Shabazz, the wife of Malcolm X (Lindsay Owen Pierre, The Killing Yard), while Golden Globe winner Academy Award nominee Bassett embodies Coretta Scott King, the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Malik Yoba, New York Undercover). The film follows the women as they mourn the tragic assassinations of their husbands, try to rebuild their lives, and continue the civil rights movement that their deceased spouses began.
“This film is about a friendship that arose out of tragic circumstances,” says Bassett in the sneak peek below. “Betty and Coretta for so long have been known as the wives of, when indeed they were women of strength in their own right.”
Slated to air on Lifetime on Saturday, February 2, at 8p/9c, Betty & Coretta is being shown in celebration of Black History Month. Check out the trailer and take a behind-the-scenes look at the film below.
