Lil Mama Is Cast As Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes In VH1′s Upcoming TLC Biopic
Looks like there’s more popping with Lil Mama‘s future than just her lipgloss.
The 23-year-old rapper and judge on the hit MTV series America’s Next Best Dance Crew, whose real name is Naitia Jessica Kirkland, is set to star as Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in an upcoming biopic about hip-hop super trio TLC. Currently in pre-production, the VH1 film follows the rise of Left Eye and her bandmates, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, as they commanded the charts and will most likely include a scene depicting the car crash which caused her death in Honduras in 2002.
Rap legend MC Lyte let the cat out of the bag about the casting as she walked the red carpet at the first-ever VIBE Impact Awards. “I’m gonna put a little bit of my concentration and focus on helping to uplift a sister who is talented, smart, witty and just had her chances cut too short and that’s Lil Mama, ’cause she is a talented young lady,” MC Lyte stated. “I want to see her do some beautiful things. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say, but I will, she just got the role as Left Eye in TLC’s new movie. I am so excited for her.”
Lyte clearly has a fondness for the “Shawty Get Loose” singer and hinted that the two may put out a rap duet soon. “We’re working on a hip-hop sisters record,” MC Lyte said. “I’ll be doing songs with her, with [Lady of] Rage. Monie [Love] will do a song with Yo-Yo. We’re gonna mix it up. It’s gonna be nice.”
Watch MC Lyte spill the beans below. Do you think Lil Mama’s outspoken personality will allow her to channel Left Eye on-screen?
