Kate Upton Makes History By Appearing On The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover For The 2nd Straight Year
Sports Illustrated is not giving Kate Upton the cold shower. Instead, the magazine has awarded the curvy model with the distinct honor of being their Swimsuit Issue cover girl for the second year in a row!
The cover, featuring the 20-year-old blonde bombshell, was originally slated to be announced on Late Show with David Letterman. But, instead, the news was leaked online via Twitter. In stark contrast from her 2012 cover, which was shot in the sizzling sun and sands of Australia, 2013 finds Kate in the frosty waters of Antarctica. Thankfully, Ms. Upton knows how to warm things up visually. The model forgoes her shirt and top for a white hot parka, a string bikini bottom, and more decolletage then most men will be able to handle. With a headline that reads, “Kate Upton Goes Polar Bare… and then Sizzles In Body Paint,” we can’t wait to see the fashion, or lack there of, inside Sports Illustrated’s most highly-anticipated issue of the year.
“We can finally talk about Antarctica!!!!!” Upton tweeted after the unauthorized announcement. “Took us 2 months to thaw out.”
Kate isn’t the only model to grace Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit issue more than once. Elle McPherson holds the record, gracing the cover five times between 1986 and 2006, while Kathy Ireland, Cheryl Tieges, and Daniela Pestova have each landed the cover three times. Christie Brinkley worked the cover three years in a row from 1979 to 1981, as did Elle MacPherson from 1986 to 1988.
