Russell Westbrook & Blake Griffin Star In A Cool New “Dare To Fly” Commercial For The Air Jordan XX8

“The game is the game,” Michael Jordan says at the beginning of a new commercial for the Air Jordan XX8 sneaker that will launch this weekend at NBA All-Star Weekend, “until it isn’t…”

The commercial, which hit the Internet earlier this week and has started being shown on TV as well, stars Russell Westbrook and Blake Griffin wearing some pretty ridiculous outfits and is meant to drum up interest in the Air Jordan XX8 sneaker. And, it succeeds largely because of the presence of the voiceover from His Airness himself and because Westbrook and Griffin have turned into two of the biggest superstars in the NBA. The “Dare to Fly” ad, as it’s being called, dares sneakerheads—and basketball players—to step outside of the box for a minute and try on a pair of Air Jordan XX8 sneakers. They’re unconventional, sure, but they’re also a symbol of where the Jordan Brand is headed in the future and what it can do to help you improve your game.

Will this commercial work and get more people excited about the sneaker? We’re not sure. We’ll just have to wait and see how people react when the sneakers are released next week. But, what we do know is that the Jordan Brand is clearly going to pull out all the stops when it comes to the Air Jordan XX8 and use all the firepower they have in their arsenal (i.e. their roster of talented NBA players) to sell the sneaker to you.

If you’re interested in picking up the Air Jordan XX8 this weekend, they’ll start selling today in Houston and everywhere else tomorrow, and they’ll run you $250. Will you be picking up a pair—or have you already decided against it? Hit the comments section and let us know what you think about both the commercial and the sneaker itself. It’ll be interesting to see how well it does or doesn’t sell when it’s released.
