Google Named Best Internship Of 2013
In a strange instance of life imitating art (or art imitating life imitating art), Google was named the best internship of 2013 this week. At the same time, the company has just begun promoting the film The Internship, which stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as two mid-career Google interns.
Glassdoor, a jobs-centered social network, released the rankings based on interviews with current and former interns. The site suggested that the rankings were a combination of how well interns are treated, how competitive getting the position is, and of course, compensation.
Google clearly excels in that last category, offering Software Engineer Interns over $6,000 a month, more than anyone except Microsoft Research Interns. (However, a Forbes ranking stated that companies like Facebook and VMWare earned top spots for intern pay. Regardless, they are definitely making more than a lot of actual employees in the workforce.)
But the interviews describe a company that offers more than just money. Interns say they had meaningful face time with even high ranking executives, and their opinions were really valued.
Google also earned the top spot last year.
What do you think- is it time to beg Mountain View for an entry-level position?
