Christoph Waltz Kicks Butt As Christ In SNL‘s: Djesus Uncrossed
Quentin Tarantino‘s last two films, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained, have had two major things in common: they were hyper-violent historical revenge fantasies, and they featured celebrated performances from Austrian-born actor Christoph Waltz. This past weekend, Saturday Night Live took these factors to their natural conclusion with a fake trailer for Djesus Unchained, a Tarantino spoof starring Waltz as Jesus, who is resurrected from the dead- and sets out to wreak havoc on everyone who wronged him.
Well, Tarantino did say that he wanted to make a third “rewritten history” film. This seems like as good a premise as any.
Djesus Uncrossed has since gone viral, part for its spot-on parody of Tarantino’s style (I particularly liked the colorful silhouette of Jesus slaying Romans), and part for its risky subject matter.
Though the potential to offend seems pretty obvious here- and in a faux commercial where Waltz plays a frail, retiring pope seeking financial advice- there doesn’t seem to be much backlash. Perhaps those who would be upset don’t expect much from the godless heathens at SNL anyway.
What do you think of Djesus Uncrossed?
